Even during the difficult time of the pandemic lockdown, India took care not to disturb the world food supply chain and continued to export. Amid the nationwide lockdown, when most economic activities have come to a grinding halt, Varanasi brings a glimmer of hope. For the first time, a farmer’s of the Kashi region has exported four tonnes of green vegetables including chili, cucumber, and gourd to London via Delhi. So here we have continued our exports during the time of the Lockdown even to many Asian Countries.

“The export demand is 20% higher than the pre-Covid levels. We noticed that in the first quarter of 2020-21, there was an increase in the consumption of vegetables in most of the export markets compared to non-vegetarian food. Also, the increase in the frequency of flights by Air India, Spice Jet, British Airways, and Gulf carriers, leading to a drop in freight rates, helped exporters,” Awari said.

India is the only major Asian nation that is growing its export share in vegetables.

“Our biggest advantage is that our product basket and market basket are both quite diversified,” said Rakesh Mohan Joshi, a professor at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Delhi. Indian exporters also earned goodwill as they had ensured steady supply even when freight rates were high, unlike countries such as Egypt, China, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic, said Sunil Awari, GM at Bengaluru-based Namdhari Farm Fresh.

We have developed a large network of clientele that is spread all across the globe. Some of the major countries where we export are London, Singapore, U.S.A, Nepal, Malaysia, etc. Many vegetables are included in the export of vegetables from India like Onion, Broccoli, Brinjal, Spinach, cabbage, Green chilies so on, and so forth.
